Hi Everyone! This is my very first blog post and I'm excited to have a place where I can just share some thoughts, progress on Mi LegaSí box, and just whatever may come to mind.
I have to share with you something that happened while I was in our neighborhood festival this week that simply had me saying, "Ay, por favor!" and rolling my eyes. It's summer and there's alot going on everywhere. Our neighborhood had a local festival with vendors, giveaways, games for the kids, and free food.
I picked up my daughter from daycare and went directly there. It was about 6:30pm when we got there. I was looking to see what the free food was as all they had were hot dogs. Ugh, hot dogs. I looked around to see if there were anymore food vendors and to my disbelief, there weren't any. My 2 1/2 year old daughter has had 1 hot dog in her life, courtesy of my neighbor. It's not that I forbid it, I simply rather have her eat something where I know what the ingredients are or what the brand is. If you want to give your kid hot dogs who am I to judge? I grew up on Tang, Ritz crackers, and Fruit Loops!
Anyway, back to my story. So my daughter was hungry and there was no where nearby to buy food and we had walked there, so long story short, I said what the hell, one hot dog's not gonna kill her. There she was savoring this hot dog, "mmm mami, que rico!" when all of a sudden I hear a woman walk by and say, "Ay no, I would NEVER let my child eat a hot dog." She walked away and all I could think of was, "Ay por favor!" and "Of course, someone's gonna say something the ONE day that I do give her a hot dog!"
Every mamá is different, every child is different. We are all doing the best that we THINK we are doing but we know we're not perfect. I look back at some of the things that my parents did and think, man that was fu%#ed up, and yet I turned out pretty normal. They too did the best that they could. Don't get me wrong, I love hearing advice and trying different things with my daughter to get her to listen, or have less or shorter tantrums, but the point is at first glance we as mamás should give every mamá the benefit of the doubt. We all have days that we're not proud of or off days. We may not agree with someone else's parenting ways and that's fine, this is America and we're entitled to our opinion. Just remember it's YOUR child and not theirs, brush the comments off, and have another hot dog ;)
